Given the amount they deducted in taxes last year, will I receive a refund this year? I also have one dependent and will be eligible for a credit for that.
Do you file as single, or head of household? How is your dependent related to you, and how old are they?

I file single. My dependant is my fiancee. She is 29 years old. Unable to work because of a disability. I take care of her full time.

It looks like you would get about 200 in federal refund then.
I got over $1,000 back in refund for 2022 and they only took out around $600 for the year so I thought maybe I would get a lot more back this year.

You must have qualified for a tax credit that year. Were you lower income or in college?
I was part time in 2022 no college.

So you most likely had no federal tax liability and got the 600 back and the earned income tax credit. Your w4 was set to withhold more than needed, maybe you only worked some weeks of the year, or had higher earning weeks.
Now you worked all year, and your withholding was pretty close to accurate.
@Nico
Yeah I claimed 0 on my w4 last year to have the most taken out in taxes. I owed $648 in 2023 because I screwed up my w4 and they didn’t withhold enough.

My calcs show the same thing, as long as their dependent has less than $5050 of income for the year, and they lived together all year.
If they didn’t live together all year and/or her income is over that, she won’t be eligible to be claimed as a dependent, and the person who posted this will owe about $300.

We lived together all year. No income at all.
No income for her I mean.
Then the $200 federal refund looks correct.

Alright thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it.
