Why are so many people so clueless? Reading some of these posts makes me think I should be charging way more for what I do. Hard to believe they have the same rights as the rest of us. Doesn’t seem fair, honestly.
This is why I’m scared to open my own practice. I just want to do honest, proper work, but seeing this mindset everywhere is discouraging.

You can avoid those clients. The key is to keep the good ones and drop the rest. It’s not worth the headache.

People like this usually won’t pay for professional help anyway. If they’re this unreasonable about taxes, they won’t value your services either.

Charge them extra and make it worth your time. Trust me, they’ll pay.

I had someone ask me how to cut their tax bill to zero. They were a retired teacher on a pension. There was literally nothing I could do. Ended up referring them to a free local service.

Use engagement letters and charge a lot more if needed. Document everything. If they start being difficult, let them go.

When someone suggests shady ideas, I just say, ‘That’s called fraud and could get you jailed.’

Owning your own practice means you get to say no to clients like this. Don’t take on the ones who stress you out.

I’m in Florida, didn’t even need to take an ethics test for my CPA. Maybe I should help him out.
@Cael
Wait, really? Here, ethics are part of every exam… though some people seem to ‘forget’ them when money’s involved.

Yeah, some states in the US don’t require an ethics test after the main exams, but the topic is covered during the tests.
@Cael
Florida doesn’t seem big on ethics from what I’ve seen. Lived there for 20 years and saw enough.
