I got paid for Thanksgiving even though I wasn’t working there at the time. Then they took the pay back, but I still owe taxes on it. It’s just $11, but it’s really frustrating.
You’ll get it back when you file your taxes. Once they send it, they can’t really claw it back easily. They should’ve just taken the loss, but they didn’t.

Actually, they can fix this by amending their payroll returns.

Yeah, they probably should’ve taken the loss, but they know you’ll get it back during tax season. Just make sure they handled it properly. If they didn’t adjust your payroll the right way and just did a deduction, you might not get those taxes back. Still, it’s not a lot of money, so it may not be worth chasing.
@Qi
The W-2 will show the taxes as paid. The state already got the money. You’ll see a paycheck with less income but taxes still taken out.
Can you post a redacted copy of your final pay stub? That might help people give better advice.

If they paid and then took it back, you’ve still technically paid taxes on that amount. You’ll likely have overpaid taxes for the year, and if so, you’ll get it back at tax time.

It didn’t even hit my bank account. They added and removed the holiday pay on the same check, which was separate from my final paycheck.
Wait, are you saying they paid you a negative amount and you’re asking if you owe taxes on that?
No, you shouldn’t owe anything.

Are you saying income isn’t taxable?
What I mean is, if you were paid $144 gross and they asked for it back, they’d need to amend their tax filings. Your W-2 should reflect that you didn’t actually get paid $144. They’d also recover any taxes they sent in.
