Tax Implications for Moving States for Work Without Changing Residence

Hi guys,

I’m currently working in Texas and getting paid there, but my job requires me to move frequently. I’m planning to temporarily relocate to Tennessee for about 1.5 years for a new job, while maintaining a permanent residential address in Texas through a mail forwarding service.

My question is about how this will affect my taxes. Since I’ll still be getting paid in Texas and maintaining my domicile there, will I only be responsible for Texas state income tax, or are there other tax implications I should be aware of?

I’ve had trouble finding a clear answer, so any insights or experiences related to this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Since Texas doesn’t have state income tax, you won’t owe any state taxes from your job there. For Tennessee, check if you need to file any local taxes, but you shouldn’t have to worry about state income taxes there.
