Last year, my ex-aunt handled my taxes, and I still haven’t received my refund. I asked my ex to check with her aunt, but she says she doesn’t know what’s wrong. I kept all my tax paperwork, but I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do to track down my refund. I was supposed to get back over $1,000. I’m now 20 (I was 19 when I filed) if that makes any difference. Should I talk to someone or try something else? Appreciate any advice.
Do you have a copy of the 1040 form that was filed for you? If you can share a photo of it from lines 1 to 34, it could help us figure out what’s going on.

Yes, I have it right here.
@Casey
If you want, post a picture of it from line 1 to line 34. We could take a look to see if anything seems off.

I’m trying to figure out how much I was supposed to get back, but I can’t find it.

Check line 34. That should show the refund amount.
It says it wasn’t approved?
Might be an error that stopped it from being processed.

Should I just start over or go to a tax pro?
Hard to say without seeing the 1040 or a transcript. Might be best to consult someone.
Did the IRS process your tax return?
Did you check the status of your refund? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund

I’m looking at my 1040, but I can’t find where it shows what I should’ve gotten back.

It’s on Form 1040, page two, line 35a.

What says it wasn’t approved? Refunds are either accepted or rejected, not really ‘approved.’

Can you access your online account to see your 2023 transcript?
If your state has income tax, they might also have a “Where’s my refund” page. Sometimes state refunds are processed even if federal ones are delayed. It could be worth checking.

I found it, but it says it wasn’t approved.
