Living in a no-income-tax state as an iOS engineer… anyone else?

I work as an iOS engineer, and I’m in a state with no income tax. Just wondering if anyone else has done this and what you think of it.

So you’re working remotely? California has income tax though.

Yeah, I work fully remote.

What state? Washington?

Could be New Hampshire, Texas, or Florida… all no income tax too.

@Rowan
Don’t forget Tennessee, Wyoming, Nevada, Washington, Alaska… those states are all tax-free too. Unless I’m mixing them up – it’s late here, so forgive me if I did.

It’s Wyoming, not Idaho.

@Casey
Yep, thanks for the catch.

And don’t forget Nevada.

Idaho actually has income tax.

Idaho has a 5.8% flat income tax rate.

@Rowan
Texas has some pretty high property taxes though.

Yeah, same with New Hampshire. But if you earn a lot, it might still be worth it overall.

So what’s NH doing with all that money? How about fixing some roads?

@Charlie
NH doesn’t have sales or income tax, so property taxes cover things like schools and roads. Roads are actually better there compared to nearby states.

Property values tend to be lower too. My old house, a basic 3-bed, 2-bath, is only worth around $200k.

Depends on the area! I sold my smaller 3-bed for $350k in Dallas in 2022.

@Rowan
Honestly, Texas’s high property tax still makes it worth it for some folks who want to skip the income tax.

Doesn’t working for a company based in California mean you still have to pay some California taxes?

Actually, I’ve worked fully remote for a year now, but yes, each state has its own rules.
