Former job won't give me my W2… how do I get it?

If you have all your paystubs, you already have all the info you need.

The person who posted later mentioned they didn’t get any paystubs. It’s so strange and suspicious for a company not to provide a record of pay or deductions. But the IRS probably has the info, so that’s where they should start.

You can also visit your local social security office with a valid ID to get a copy of your W2 transcript.

If nothing else works and you’re still not getting any response from the company, you should call the IRS and let them know you suspect something shady is going on with your former employer. They can help you look into it, and the government will take care of the rest from there.

@Reagan
The IRS will still expect you to file a return, though.

I didn’t say they wouldn’t have to file a return. I just meant the IRS would handle the employer issue after that.

@Reagan
“Let the government take it from there.” Sure sounds like you meant they wouldn’t have to do anything else.

I was talking about the missing info investigation. How can someone file taxes without the info they need? You’re not helping anyone here. Maybe stop commenting.

@Reagan
Taxes aren’t exactly a surprise to adults. We know they exist. Everyone should at least have a rough idea of what they earned. Look through your bank statements and credit card records, then file as best as you can.
